Official route

Though seen from a strictly religious point of view, the most important thing is to come to the Cathedral and return, in reality it is more complicated than that since all confraternities have to pass through what it is called “the Official Route”. This covers from Plaza de la Campana de la Catedral passing through Streets Sierpes, Plaza de San Francisco, Avenida de la Constitución, before they enter the Cathedral through the Gate of San Miguel and leave again through Street Palos which leads out onto plaza Virgen de los Reyes. All fraternities have to do the same route. Along the route you can rent a chair to see the processions, either by purchasing a weekly or daily ticket, prices differ from day to day and depending on the chair’s location.
Time schedules
During the journey there are three controls to check that each brotherhood follows the set time schedules. At the street La Campana they find the time control of the General Council of Brotherhoods and Fraternities of Seville, someone that takes note of the number of brotherhoods, both the so called “Penitence” and “Glory”. Lately this street has become the best spot to see the different brotherhoods and finding a place to view from is almost impossible. The second control, carried out by the city’s authorities, is located in Plaza de San Francisco also called “Palcos” which is socially speaking the most important place to see the fraternities. Here access is restricted to them accompanied by a member from the stage. The last control is done by the ecclesiastic authorities at the entrance of the Cathedral.
