All processions take place along the Official Route. Various confraternities hold their processions on the same day, and the fact that they all use the same route allows visitors to enjoy the spectacle from a single point, as well as making it easier to coordinate the schedules for each procession.
The entire event is imbued with a spiritual and religious significance, which reaches its height when the confraternities pay penitence at local churches, the most notable being San Pedro church in Huelva, where this tradition has been honoured since at least the late 18th century.
The parish church of Purísima Concepción is another popular port of call and meeting point for all confraternities. It is located in the city centre, next to the famous avenue called Gran Vía de Martín Alonso Pinzón, where many official buildings are situated, such as the City Hall. Although the confraternities do not enter this church, they all stop outside in order for the Nazarenes to perform a traditional ceremony. The Official Route has seen many changes over the years. The Cathedral, which was built in 1954, is not included in the Official Route due to the fact that it is located on the other side of the city.
Along the Official Route, there are spectator stands available, which can be acquired through the Consejo de Hermandades (Council of Brotherhoods) and renewed annually. In addition, chairs are placed along various streets and can be hired by spectators. The itinerary of the Official Route is as follows: La Placeta, Plus Ultra, Concepción, Espronceda, Plaza de las Monjas and Gran Vía.
