The Holy Week is a unique spectacle for the five senses. To fully enjoy it, you should be always attentive to what is happening around you. But we warn you: too much ‘Semana Santa’ can cause an addiction. If you let your guard down, you will have to come back again year after year.
The Holy Week of Granada is not one of the biggest. The narrowness of its streets and the small gates of the temples are serious disadvantages for the confraternities of the city. The floats are not too big. But, of course, this always depends on what they are compared to. Because in Granada, ‘not too big’ is the perfect size to walk the sinuous streets of the city centre or the winding alleys of the Albaicín on a Maundy Thursday night.
The Holy Week in Granada is also the Realejo, ancient and authentic district, pioneer of the ‘cofradías’ in Granada. The Holy Week in Granada is Plaza Nueva and Carrera del Darro. The Holy Week of Granada is Albaicín and impossible ‘chicotás’. The Holy Week in Granada is pure, genuine and ancient. But we must also mention one of the ‘new’ areas of the city, one that pushes forward the ‘Semana Santa’ with a new and youthful force: the Zaidín district. In the Zaidín you will not see old palaces and narrow medieval alleys. Instead you will find large avenues and high towers... But also the youngest, most joyful and enthusiastic confraternities of all.
The Holy Week in Granada is a mixture of colours, sounds, textures and flavours... The Holy Week in Granada is worth seeing.
